Message from Odesa Turner

My name is Odesa Turner we are seeking support to continue to maintain the Health Center that was built in the Village of Nimba County, Liberia for the community and the various towns, and for pregnant women to have a place to go for prenatal checkups and a safe place to give birth. The journey these women and the community have to travel for just the bare minimum for health care is dangerous.

They lack the bare essential to eat daily or feed their families a healthy meal. The women or the babies’ chance of surviving those long road trips were not good. Before TMS the child birth death was extremely high. Most of the towns’ people did not seek medical care because most could not afford it and getting there was almost impossible. They suffer from tuberculosis, malaria, high blood pressure, eyes diseases and many other treatable illnesses that could be prevented with proper health care.

The costs to maintain are as follows: our monthly expenses are $3,512 for the health center, and $1,526 monthly for our training center, to maintain internet services, training materials for our children and the evangelism team as they share their faith in the various towns.

My mom was a midwife in Nimba County, where she helped these women gives birth. She was a gifted, skilled, dedicated, and nurturing woman who used her gift to help others. Although my mom wasn't formally schooled, there was a need, and through her love for people, she learned how to be a blessing. She was known in the village as "the mother for all." Her nurturing charisma brought many families joy, peace, and comfort.

Unfortunately, she passed away in 2015 from the stress and demands that took their toll over the years. As much as she helped, there was still the unnecessary loss of life due to distance, lack of support, and just not having the bare essentials to offer the community. Now that she is gone, the village women don't have anyone to help them in childbirth, and the closest place they can go to have a baby is Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, which is a four-hour drive from the village.

This is a developing country; many people do not have transportation other than walking. The road is in bad condition and not safe, even for the few who may get a ride to Monrovia. My family and I wanted to continue our mother's dream of helping others, currently, I live in Philadelphia, and because of the resources that God have blessed me and my family with, we were able to help my sister complete nursing school and get the necessary skills that she needs to help these women. Our mother’s example has left an imprint in our hearts.

Because we know that it takes a village to raise a village, the body of Christ and other donors have come alongside us, devoted their time in prayer and donation and God has answered our prayers by making this project a reality. Luke 17:6, 17:16, with the faith of the muster Seed, God made a way to have:

Praising GOD for His accomplishments: Isaiah 43:19

Where the health center has been built; our late mother told us of her dream of one day being able to make something like this in her homeland to help those struggling and give them the hope that everyone deserves, knowing that someone cares about them and that they matter. Our mother consistently gave of herself; her passion and loving heart have become ours, so we honor her deeds and her memory by continuing the work she loved.

Now, God has transformed TMSMHC into a community that God not only is providing for their physical needs, He is also providing for their spiritual needs.

Transformation: Titus 3:5-8 (NIV) “he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6 whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7 so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8 This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.”

•  Movement: Psalm 66:16 (NIV) “Come and hear, all you who fear God; let me tell you what he has done for me.”

•  Sharing: Ephesians 2:10 (NIV) “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

•  Multiplication: Mark 16:15 (NIV) “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.”

•  Helping one another: Hebrews 6:10 (NIV) “ God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them.”
